Our Murgon Office seeks a skilled Legal Practitioner in Criminal Law with a keen interest in social justice. The opportunity is ideal for someone wishing to build on hearings experience, and work within a rostered court circuit.

Ideally you will have at least two years’ PAE full-time experience. Those with less experience are welcome to apply if you hold demonstrated advocacy skills and court acumen. Your experience with both Duty Lawyer type responsibilities and hearings will be a distinct advantage. Court Support Officers, specialist Through Care Officers and our Administration Staff provide support service to this role and know our communities well.

Our Workforce Development Strategy will enable you to undertake both team and formal training to succeed. We will interview promptly.

An attractive annual allowance for this role is available at $10,000 on the anniversary of your appointment.

Our Murgon Office offers a full-time role in our Through Care Team with a direct focus on adult male clients considered to be of a high-risk of reoffending for domestic and family violence offences. The goal of the Through Care service is to reduce recidivism and incarceration rates by supporting our clients (both pre and post release) through the delivery of intensive, culturally safe case management services.

Ideally you will have a Degree in Social Work or Behavioural Sciences from a recognised tertiary institution (or a minimum five (5) years’ demonstrated work experience with equivalent competencies relating to the case management of clients in the Criminal Justice System). Your experience with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities will also be highly regarded, as is experience working with male clients. Current funding provides a full-time contract and a work vehicle until 30 June 2025.

ATSILS seeks a skilled Legal Practitioner in Criminal Law. Our dedicated workplace supports many communities, in adult and youth jurisdictions. Provide high quality legal representation to clients in a variety of teams, based in any Queensland location with significant expectation of legal services to Regional and Remote Offices throughout Queensland. The ability to travel by road, air, and in rare cases short sea trips, will be essential for this role. It is estimated that 50% of work time will involve travel for extended periods, some of which are in remote locations.

To be successful in this role, you will need at least five years’ PAE experience, or other demonstrated advocacy experience, resilience for a range of complex work and ability to develop culturally competent service skills. Your experience with both Duty Lawyer type responsibilities and Hearings will be a distinct advantage, as will provision of service in the youth jurisdiction. Court Support Officers and our Administration Staff provide extensive service to this role and know our communities well.
