Regional Manager – Legal Practitioner – Criminal Law

Our Mount Isa Regional Office provides an extraordinary opportunity to lead a busy, resilient regional team while practicing Criminal Law. It also presents an interesting Court Circuit with a variety of remote Courts operating on Mornington Island, smaller towns such as Cloncurry and Doomadgee, and other locations in Queensland’s outback.

You will have the support of a dedicated team of 16, including four Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Court Support Officers and nine Legal Practitioners in both our Mount Isa and Normanton Offices. We have two full-time Administration staff members and a Youth Through Care Officer focusing on reducing recidivism and incarceration rates of our youth clients.

You will require five years’ post-admission experience to apply for the role, but formal Practice Management qualifications are not essential. This role reports directly to our Chief Executive Officer and our Principal Legal Officer and is a key leadership position for Queensland.

Candidates with less than five years’ post-admission experience may consider applying for our Practice Standards Officer or Legal Practitioner position as a strong pathway is in place. Our Brisbane Office seeks two skilled Legal Practitioner’s in Criminal Law; one position will be based from our Brisbane Head Office and one position based from our Cleveland Satellite Office, servicing Brisbane’s Bayside. Our dedicated workplace, servicing both adult and youth jurisdictions offers an excellent advocacy development opportunity.

Ideally you will have at least two years’ PAE full-time experience, but those with less are welcome to apply if you have demonstrated advocacy skills and court acumen. Your experience with Duty Lawyer type responsibilities will be a distinct advantage. This position works alongside culturally strong Court Support Officers and skilled Administration Staff, who provide extensive service to this role and know our communities well.

Our Brisbane Office seeks a Safety and Wellbeing Officer to join the team with an immediate start. You will work closely within a leadership context delivering and evaluating safety and wellbeing initiatives.

You will ideally have a tertiary qualification in Workplace Health and Safety (minimum Certificate IV) or related discipline. A minimum of two years’ workplace experience within the legal profession or with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforces or clients in this field. Sound experience in Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordination.
